Chuck Smith Jr. A “Straight Ally” for Gay Christians

What is a Straight Ally?

Excerpt from Grace Rivers Blog:

Transitions – Report on TEN Conference 2010

“On Saturday they had a panel of what was called “straight allies”. I knew that the presence of these four men at this event was huge, groundbreaking and, in many ways, unprecedented. One has to consider that, just their mere appearance at this type of event could be a big risk for them, as there’s just not that many that call themselves “straight allies” in the Christian community right now. But, maybe even more significant, these  men chose to, not only attend this conference….they chose to be an integral part by participating in this panel.

The men who participated were Chuck Smith Jr. (son of Chuck Smith Sr, the father of the “Jesus Movement” and the founder of the huge network of Calvary Chapel churches around the globe) was on the end. Sitting next to Chuck Smith Jr was Andrew Marin (author of “Love is An Orientation”).

Then there  was Jay Bakker (son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker). And, next to Jay was Mark Tidd (Evangelical pastor of Denver’s Highland Church). As the panel talked, each one shared their stories of meeting men and women in the gay community who loved God and wanted to serve Him. They shared how meeting these gay folks had challenged their own theologies regarding the “gay issue”, their historical views of homosexuality, and how they had seen the scriptures differently since they began to look into themselves in light of what they were experiencing.

I really related to these men. When I moved away from 22 years of conservative Ex-gay ministry and got alone with God myself, it seemed He was shaking loose some of the things I had always thought and had been taught. I was challenged by these men on the panel and their seeming care and love for the people here at this conference.”

“embrace”

This “Conference” took place in April of 2010. Where are all the “Discernment Ministries” on this event?

Chuck Smith Jr. Who was once “kicked out” of the Calvary Chapel Outreach Fellowship (CCOF) for being “Emergent” has gone on to become an advocate for the Gay Christian community. He is termed a “Bridge Builder” by them. He himself states at marker 6:30 in the video below that he “Loves and Praises my brothers and sisters in Christ,” when referring to the LGBT group at the meeting.

Chuck Smith Jr is a frequent Pastor’s Perspective host with his father, Chuck Smith Sr., the “Father” of the “Jesus People Movement.” Despite the attempts of Chuck Smith Sr to rewrite the history of Calvary Chapel and the Jesus people movement to exclude its true founder, Lonnie Frisbee, Chuck Smith Jr. makes all attempts to remind people that the Gay Hippie Preacher who “converted” via an LSD trip was instrumental at the inception of Calvary Chapel. See here for a video of Chuck Smith Jr’s account of Lonnie Frisbee’s role in CCCM.

Calvary Chapel and its leader Chuck Smith Sr have notoriously and belligerently sought to erase the facts surrounding Lonnie Frisbee. Lonnie Frisbee mentored Greg Laurie, and Chuck Smith Jr. Lonnie Frisbee co-ministered for years with John Higgins at the Commune House of Acts. Lonnie Frisbee met Billy Graham and traveled to Europe and Africa depositing his “mantle” all over the place. Lonnie Frisbee was instrumental in the Vineyard Movement and recently his “mantle” has been called upon for a third wave of apostolic Latter Rain type revival; See here for videos, be warned they are demonic. Lonnie Frisbee did not convert to Christianity he had a “mystical” experience, he calls himself a “see-er” and a “mystic” see here for video. Lonnie Frisbee continued to sleep with men after his apparent conversion and died of AIDS. So, Chuck Smith Jr appears on stage with Gay Christians, welcomes them and their lifestyle into the all encompassing interdenominational church of god and no one at CCCM, or any “watchmen/women” are the wiser. He floats into KWAVE and hosts Pastor’s Perspective with his father through the course of last year and confirms his ecumenical jesus with his father that Catholics are Christians too, and by the way so are practicing homosexuals. Never mind what the Bible says about this, Grace over Doctrine is the Modus operandi at Calvary Chapel and its sister ministries.

    Sad, sad, sad.!…
“God is laughing with delight?” I think not.
    God is grieved.
He will judge with righteous anger!
Woe unto these sinners and their blind guides who are seeking death and will surely find it!

(the angel speaking here): “And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. (Jesus speaking now) And behold, i come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” (Rev. 22:8-15

I suggest sinner and blind guides alike get themselves a King James Bible (not the new age, interdenominational versions that present a lie and “another jesus”), read it, and repent! Seek life!

I don’ think Chuck was acting towards the gays anymore then Christ would. I once asked Chuck about the gays in our church and his reply was to hate the sin and love the sinner. We are all sinners, should we treat anyone different then the other. Would Christ? We are here not to jundge on another but to connect and love each other, sin and all.

    • mijadedios

There are many who believe that lie, that the Catholic “Church” is “Thee” church and has stood for truth, although they introduced the same old lie Satan has been using since the garden; “Surely you shall not die.”

  4. I thank the Lord that I have found your blog. I’ve been doing some research on Lonnie Frisbee and his association with Greg Laurie. Such major deception is so scary, and to see the extent this deception has had it’s influence….it’s tragic, and extremely sobering! I now realize that Greg Laurie did not meet up with the true Jesus Christ, but a false Christ. And that explains Greg’s view concerning the false Gospel message he delivers. The thousands that are being deceived and led to a false Christ, a false Gospel is horrifying.
Chuck Smith Jr, is only bearing the fruit he grew up with due to his father’s belief’s, and this man Chuck Smith has supported many a false prophet and teachers. I fear for this man’s soul, both Sr. and Jr. What can you expect? Bad fruit comes from a bad tree.
What days we are living in, it’s exciting, but very sobering.
The Lord bless you for standing for the truth.
    In His Eternal Love…..

Thank you for stopping by and reading. I’ve done a lot of articles related to CC’s . Take a look at the top of my home page, CC page has been updated. All the information is sobering and can be down right depressing but it should be a reminder to stop looking to fallible man and to our true shepherd, Christ Jesus.

You are both so wrong and don’t have a clue of what you are taking about. I went to Chuck Smith Sr, church for three years and Chuck Jr for 15. I was taught nothing but the truth that is from the bible. I was a Lutheran for many years and learned more and came to have a personal relationship through both Chuck’s and still do. I was taught from them through Christ. Their minitries have been blessed many times over AND THOSES BLESSING CAME FROM GOD. You are both acting like the men in the bible that judged Jesus Christ. Shame on you. Get your facts straight before you start blogging. A true man of God would

    • mijadedios

Thanks for visiting the site Darcy. I am not a man, I’m a woman. I do check the facts before posting as it would be detrimental to me in the end if I didn’t do so. I’m glad to hear you left the Lutheran church and was able to be ministered while attending a CC. Clearly you understand as a believer in Christ that it was not “Calvary Chapel” or Chuck Smith Jr. or Sr. that did the ministering. The Holy Spirit is perfectly able to reach you in spite of the error they do teach. Calvary Chapel is in error and the Sr. Pastor has made false prophecies which according to the bible tells us not to listen to them anymore. Chuck Jr does not make direct objection to these gays for their chosen lifestyle, he rather sit in their company and say that Jesus loves them, which of course Jesus loves the sinner and not the sin, we are not arguing that. For Chuck Jr. to sit in their company and not exhort them but let them hold a conference and conversely endorsing their lifestyle is not a stand I would take. Chuck Jr is thus a stumbling block to those Christians who are struggling with sexual identity or to acknowledge that homosexuality is a SIN. It is a SIN, do you not agree, it is listed in the bible as such and this is not just me speaking. You are welcome to voice a differing of opinion and I’m glad that you have. BTW Chuck Smith Sr. cast out Chuck Smith Jr. for being “Emergent” not for supporting homosexuals, he then later reinstated Chuck Jr. whether it was formal or informal I’m not aware, and Chuck Jr enjoys co-hosting with Chuck Sr on Pastor’s Perspective.

      • Actually Chuck Smith Sr, has on a video called Rick Warren a brother in Christ Jesus it was sometime in 2009, so he is “Emergent”, if not fully it won’t be long before he is. Greg Laurie also supports Rick Warren and has given financially to the cause.
And this statement: “Their minitries have been blessed many times over AND THOSES BLESSING CAME FROM GOD. You are both acting like the men in the bible that judged Jesus Christ. Shame on you. Get your facts straight before you start blogging. A true man of God would” is the typical response from those that support these false teachers, pastors, and prophets. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is, that those that make such statements are the ones who are the doing a “false judgement” against Jesus.
Jesus stood up to the leaders of His day, due to their unbelief and adding to scriptures through their interpretations, here is an example:
Mat 15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
        Mat 15:5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
Mat 15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
Mat 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Mat 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Mat 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
The religious leaders hated Him due to the truth He presented for it came up against their thoughts, and their beliefs.
This is what we are doing keeping these so-called Christian leaders and teachers accountable to the Word of God, and they hate it, and will accuse us of the very same thing you have just done.
I pray the Lord open your eyes to His truth, and not be blinded by such deceitful men, who twist the scripture too suit their goals, their vision which is unfortunately the vision of the Anti-Christ spirit.

Unbelievable to say that God would accept any of us continuing in a sin! I have heard Lonnie’s testimony.God sees our heart, and we won’t know ’til heaven if Lonnie is there! HOW can you preach that there are gay Christians and that ALL Catholics are saved? I know some, and they are not! When we become God’s children, through faith in Christ,we BECOME NEW Creations through His redemptive work! How misleading this is.Please tell me you,Pastor Chuck Jr. are NOT involving yourself in the Emerging movement of tolerance!!!! Will be sure to pray for God to open your eyes.I know some gay people and pray that God will lead them to Him and His absolute Truth of any and all sin! I would not be a new creation,in Christ,if I were still sleeping around!Rachel

“Pastor” Chuck Smith Jr. has been a proponent for Emergent/Emerging Movement for several years now. He was initially “kicked out” of the Dove club/Calvary Chapel because he was caught advocating for Thomas Merton and had went on some sort of sabbatical or mission with a monk. He has a blog that is very much “Emerging.” He has videos posted of him discussing contemplative prayer etc. I believe I have those links available on my CC page, although they are not hypertext they are there. Also, someone told me this was not the first time Chuck Smith Jr had done a conference like this. Keep in mind that CC board, CCOF, Calvary Chapel Outreach Fellowship agreed to take away Chuck Smith Jr’s dove status for being Emergent, but they have embraced him back into the fold as he is a frequent host for “Pastor’s Perspective” and present within CC. By all intensive purposes Chuck Smith Jr is Calvary Chapel once again. He holds “bible study” at his Uncle Chuck Fromm’s home. You may have seen that in the news in CA, where a “home fellowship” was being threatened. In reality it was Chuck Fromm (nephew to Chuck Smith Sr.) owner of Leadership Magazine, prior owner and founder of Maranatha Music Label (one of the first Christian labels that catapulted Jesus Rock). It was all a publicity stunt and to give an impression that “Christians” are being persecuted for meeting in homes when really Fromm who works closely with Smith Sr. and Jr. has access to ACLJ and Pacific Justice Institute. http://news4themasses.wordpress.com/2011/09/24/chuckfrommis/
Here are Chuck Jr’s Videos on Vimeo in case you can’t navigate to find them:
      http://vimeo.com/user4777883
He has posted videos of “FR Romulad OSB” that means, Father (Roman Catholic) OSB means Order of Saint Benedict which is a Monastic Order, ergo MONK.

Thats just what satan wants, for Christians top stop judging. Paul calls on the church to judge the unrepentant sexual sinner (using the benchmark of Scripture only is correct) & put him out of the church 1 Cor 5;12 (Paul calls the church here to judge the sinner, not the sin, …and James, in James 4, judges the worldly congrgretation – not the sin – ‘adulterers’). Churches are for Christians, not the unrepentant unsaved. Jesus taught the disciples to ‘shake the dust from your feet of those who wonnt accept the gospel’, not to hang around them or invite them back to church meetings. But thats where Saddleback ‘fellowships’ come in – their ‘churches’ are filled with unsaved people, & music (not the Word/Christ), is centre-stage.

I’ve done an article on Chuck Smith jr’s support of gay “christians.” I’ve also done articles on Chuck Smith endorsing Catholics and Mormonism.

This breaks my heart. I have been a member of Calvary Chapel for 17 years and never knew all this was going on. God help us!!!!!

  11. Concerned Servant of Christ

Joyce, don’t believe everything you read on these blogs. there is a major attack on the true works of God. Chuck Smith is a godly man and always has been. He has never condoned homosexuality or any abuses within the body of Christ. And as far as Chuck Smith Jr. is concerned, I don’t know how they can condemn a man who is reaching out as Jesus would to the gay community for the sake of their salvation.

As far as the abuses in the body of Christ, you can’t blame Chuck Smith solely for that. It is happening in all denominations and churches, but many are waking up to it, doing major background checks trying their best to prevent abuse from happening. A couple of years back, I had a friend who was afraid of putting her children in the Sunday school class because there was only one young man youth worker for the class. I made this known to the head Sunday school director. And shortly after that, there were assistants in the classes as well. Many non-denominational churches are very aware of this problem and are doing something about it.

I don’t know how anyone can put down a servant of Christ like Greg Laurie, an evangelist who has led millions to righteousness. And he shines like the sun to prove it.

    Daniel 12:3

3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.

There are many websites like Catholic Reality that are deceiving people with doctrines of demons trying to tear down non-denominational faith.

I do believe the Catholic Church is part of the one-world movement, but they can’t see it. The way they make Mary a Co-Redeemer and Mediator. This takes away the divinity of Jesus Christ. Anything that is taking away from the divinity of Jesus, I think will be part of the one world religion.

    Matthew 24:24

24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect–if that were possible.

      @Concerned_Servant_of_Christ
Yes, I am just a “blogger,” what do I know. I attended CC from 1997-2009ish. I started in CA and moved to AZ. Clearly there is a huge discrepancy in managerial styles between the CC in CA I attended and the ones in AZ. However, despite the differences and lack of notoriety in AZ it was clear there is a loyalty to Chuck Smith (CCCM) no matter where you are. The CC system treats him like a pontiff and from what I’ve seen in other speakers who make their living off of giving conferences across the nation and the globe via CC’s, they all lift up one another and no one is accountable to anyone. Greg Laurie does not “glow” in my opinion. Giving him credit for “leading people to righteousness” is a huge stretch of the imagination. Even Billy Graham (Ecumenical from his beginning) knows full well that all those “professions” for Christ at his crusades do not translate into true Conversions. Greg Laurie was and has been lead of man from his beginnings, you really have to look him up and find the plethora of biographical information on him. To understand where I’m coming from is from hours upon hours, months and years of research and reading how CC got it’s start. There are those like me who became saved during their time at a CC, but this conversion has nothing to do with Chuck Smith and or any of his bishops, it has solely to do with God’s call upon my life. There are thousands of Christian Cults in the world, all offering their own spin on scripture, people get saved through the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, through true repentance and regeneration, that is not a work of man via your highly adored Calvary Chapel. The Catholic Church is an anti-Christ system, I agree, and I would go further to state any “Christian” cult who magnifies men above the saving work of Christ is also part of that same anti-Christ system. Calvary Chapel has made great inroads to Rome, to ignore such facts or dispute otherwise is a lack of information on your part. I’ve done my homework. You don’t have to believe me, you can take my claims and test them and look into these issues further on your own. Chuck Smith Jr and his attendance at that event was NOT to rebuke the homosexuals there or to get them to see that they are living in sin. He has said a lot in this area of homosexually “saved” people. He believes Lonnie Frisbee, the gay charismatic cornerstone on which the mega franchise of which Calvary Chapel was built, was a true convert; despite the fact that Lonnie continued to act out openly in gay relationships throughout his life. *Lonnie Frisbee also discipled Greg Laurie, you might want to check on what makes him glow.

  12. Concerned Servant of Christ

I wonder what spirit you’re speaking from,to say something that crude about Greg Laurie. It is certainly not the Spirit of Christ and His Love. Chuck Smith has only spoken from the Word of God. Yes, he’s not perfect, but nobody has treated him as a pontiff either. About conversions at the crusades, I’m sure some will fall away. As a matter of fact many are falling away by fall doctrines today. You seem to have some kind of vendetta against godly Christian men who have dedicated their whole life to bringing the Love of Jesus Christ and the Love of the Gospel all over the world.

If I were you, I would be very careful of what I say about the servants of Jesus Christ as the Word of God says,
    Psalm 105:15
15 “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

It really grieves my heart that you can not see the true light of Christ. I will remember you in prayer.

    • N4TM

      @Concerned Servant of Christ (aka Anonymous) I do not believe Greg Laurie or Chuck Smith Sr and/or Jr are “anointed ones” or God’s prophets. Let me just clarify with you;
It has been reported that Chuck Smith Jr. is for gay marriage, gay adoption, he believes two gay men can be in a monogmous relationship and be Christian. Chuck Smith Jr is Emergent, using contemplative prayer, advocates Catholic dogma via certain monks he follows etc. Chuck Smith Sr. Chuck Smith Jr’s father continues to have his son on his radio show “Pastor’s Perspective,” after all this is common knowledge yet you defend Chuck Smith Sr and Jr. Chuck Smith Sr exploited a young homosexual man named Lonnie Frisbee to start what you now call a work of God and a movement of God, Calvary Chapel. Chuck Smith Sr. introduced Greg Laurie to Lonnie Frisbee (who maintained his homosexual lifestyle throughout his ministry even though he had a short fake marriage to a woman) and encouraged Lonnie Frisbee to “teach” Greg Laurie “the ministry.” Once it was too ostentatious to ignore that Lonnie Frisbee was and always had been homosexual Chuck Smith Sr cast him out and no longer associated with him handing him off to John Wimbur of Vineyard a once Calvary Chapel in Yorba Linda California. All this is ok with you? All of these facts are “works of God” in your opinion, in which you defend and then on top of accuse me of having a false spirit? I am no one, I am “just a blogger” who has no real audience here. You have nothing to fear in me as it appears you’ve settled to believe the lie. There is such a thing as false prophets, who arise from among you, who pose as ministers of light but are really workers of iniquity. Forgive me for being cynical and tired of the Calvary Chapel Cult defenders, for that I truly do need more prayer. For the zealots who defend Calvary Chapel and their falsity I do harbor resentment and this is not good, I should love them anyway and have patience with them and try to win them over with love but I do tire and flesh out and get very perturbed when my fellow Christians refuse to see the truth that stares them in the face and choose MEN over my Lord Jesus Christ. Since you have no desire to heed the warning presented here maybe it’s best that you go and return to your chosen preachers.

  13. david

I could blog here for hours… having been set free from Calvary Chapel myself. Truth is Chuck Smith has done a fabulous job of bringing seeker friendly (worldly) Christianity into the church. While outwardly preaching the “gospel,” inwardly he’s turned us over to worldly so called “christian” music, Passion of the Christ, Billy Graham and the ultimate goal, the Catholic Church. He’s had a lot of help. Research these things for yourself. I attended CC’s for 25 years, being a luke warm Christian myself. God’s mercy woke my family out of this sleep. Why should this surprise us, is this not what Paul spoke of to Timothy, and in the epistles, Thessalonians and in 1 and 2 Peter. It’s been cleverly done. Go back to the KJV. Jesus said when He returns, “Will he find faith on the earth.” Sobering thought.

“I’m right, everyone else is wrong,” types are extremely off-putting. I don’t see any similarity between them and the One they say they follow.

Please post the link to Chuck Smith Jr’s response, I really would like to read it. I am grateful to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and Greg Laurie’s Harvest for bringing my husband and 3/4 of his family out of Mormonism in the 70′s (after refusing to marry us because my husband was in a cult, I just didn’t understand that then) Calvary Chapel’s aren’t perfect, but neither are any of the other churches I have attended since with some nightmares I would not want to post. None of us are perfect, all sin, and God loves us all. I knew Lonnie personally as a young child and was sad what with happened. I wonder what Chuck Jr’s thoughts were. Thanks.

    • N4TM

@Laura “Chuck Smith Jr responds to n4tm” Is its own post. You can search to right in search bar. Praise the Lord your husband and his family came out of Mormonism! That is a blessing. May I just exhort you to keep in mind that “Calvary Chapel” did not save your husband or his family–it was the Holy Spirit calling them out of Mormonism. It was the Holy Spirit that caused their spirit to leap to the call and be converted. Hopefully they were born again, and are regenerate and not exchanging one cult culture for another. Greg Laurie didn’t save anyone, then you’d be making the same mistake the Mormons do in believing on Joseph Smith’s name to save them. Calvary Chapel didn’t “save” anyone, or you’d be making the same mistake the Mormon Church does in believing they are the only true “Church.” Yes, people fail, even those high up in Calvary Chapel fail. Everyone fails, no one is perfect except Jesus Christ. -n4tm
