“1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.” Matthew 16: 1-4**Links provided are not an endorsement they present information and/or are cited sources within the text** Also, I’m not a bible scholar I ask for grace if I mixed up my interpretation of Revelation and ‘order’ I’m subject to correction by the Holy Spirit. The point of this post is to expose the lie of the “Blood Moon Prophecy” not try to teach you all theology.
A week or so ago I ran across a headline on Drudge Report about the “Blood Moon Prophecy;” and, that a certain MEGA Pastor was touting would be “sign of the Second Coming.” The link led to an article in a Texas based news website about Pastor John Hagee and what he was predicting would be the “signs in the Heavens” that Jesus Christ’s return is on the horizon. I opened with Matthew 16:4 specifically, but it wasn’t the first scripture that came to mind when reading the latest ludicrous “prophecy” regarding the Last Days.
From San Antonio news site:
“SAN ANTONIO — Megachurch pastor John Hagee is warning his San Antonio congregation and international following of a “world-shaking event that will happen between April 2014 and October 2015.” Source linked to above.
John Hagee has been on tv for a long time. I was once duped by him. I remember years back buying one of his books entitled, Jerusalem Countdown. I read it with all enthusiasm and zero discernment. I was ripe with itching ears and wanted to get my hands on every book that would give me the cutting edge information regarding the “end days.” After I read it, the original book–there would be a revision following the one I read, I was convinced that Iran was 6 months to a couple years away from obtaining a nuclear bomb; and, I also naively bought into the blind support of Israel narrative which consequently includes fighting any and all enemies of Israel to the death. I’ve learned so much since those days, thus I can relate to those of you who are currently duped by him. As an example, when I saw the headline about the “Blood Moon” “END DAYS” mention I knew it was a false prophecy instinctively, but I clicked on the article because I also know that my brethren are eating this stuff up like candy (I mean you all also bought the Duck Dynasty elk “are Christian” line and sinker!).
Without fail this “prophecy” or “prediction” for a lack of a better word has to do with John’s latest book:
I saw video a few years ago about the “Four Blood Moons” that were going to appear in 2014 and it was afar off at the time. I was so entrenched with immanency that I nixed the thought off my shoulder declaring in my undiscerning mind, “if we make it to 2014…” I had no hope of the future at the time, less than I do today, but at least today I make plans for the future (Lord willing) and have a HOPE (the LORD). The video was a couple of white haired gentlemen sitting there excited as all get out about the “Four Blood Moons” and the possibility of the End of the World. Neglecting all the other prophesies in the Bible, the white haired gentlemen, and many others are truly mesmerized by the lunar eclipses about to take place.
I don’t deny that in thee end there will be signs in the heavens. I don’t deny the scripture that states emphatically that the stars will fall, the moon will turn to blood (not eclipsed with a red to brown tinge of color) and that the Sun will only give forth a third of its light. Those are true statements, but that is not now!
Joel 2:31 in context:
28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
32And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
Revelation 6:12 (6th seal of 7) in context:
12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
If there is not a concerted effort to report on every earthquake great and small, to coincide those reports with Solar flares, and now the great “tetrad” of the “Four Blood Moons,” to deceive the Christian and stumble the unbelievers, than I must be a soured-pessimist-“scoffer,” or I am just sick of the false prophesies and false prophets that abound more and more in these last days and those who blindly and willingly follow them!
Where are the other 5 seals? If these “blood moons” are the 6th seal, then certainly John Hagee and his pals who are touting this as a sign of the end can point to the White horse, the Red horse, the Black horse (world wide famine?), the Pale horse… Where are those small insignificant prophetic events? Have they happened thus far? The purpose of numbering the seals doesn’t convey ORDER to anyone, just to me, the jaded scoffer correct? After the 7 seals come the Trumpet Judgements. That means all 7 seals are broken, released, and happening before, (Unless the numbering doesn’t refer to sequential order, although I lean this way because God is a God of ORDER.) then the trumpet judgement happens with the Blood moon. Not four blood moons, sounds like we only have one moon that turns to blood in such a significant way the man whom Jesus loved, John, wrote it down.
I ask you, where is the hail and fire mingled with blood that was cast upon the earth? A Third of the creatures of the sea –dead? Has this happened and we haven’t been told. We do know if it’s not on twitter it hasn’t happened, but c’mon was this tweeted, because I deleted my account and if it was tweeted, I don’t know about it! Ok, I’m getting riled up I admit. So, the third part of the Sun was smitten then, because this HAS to happen before or at least with the 1/3 part of the moon and stars being smitten…? No? Not yet? We still have till 2015 you say, it could happen between now and the last “blood moon” of John Hagee’s book. Ok. Well if I’m wrong I know where I’ll be and we can discuss it then I guess. For now I will leave you with these last verses:
“42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” –Jesus the Messiah (Matt. 24:42-44)
“19And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” Deuteronomy 18:19-22
Following Excerpt from: http://www.columbian.com/news/2014/apr/13/mondays-eclipse-opens-a-tetrad/
“The first in a quartet of total lunar eclipses — the only such quartet in a span of 28 years — takes place Monday.
The total phase of Monday’s eclipse will last 78 minutes.
Viewers might be able to detect a very slight duskiness on the moon’s eastern side at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, said Stan Seeberg, with Vancouver Sidewalk Astronomers. If not, it likely will be observable by 10:45 p.m., he said.
At 10:58 p.m., the partial eclipse begins as the moon moves into the Earth’s shadow, or umbra.
There will also be some color to the event, the same effect that tints our sunrises and sunsets, Seeberg said.
“Our atmosphere bends the longer red rays of sunlight into the shadow, giving the moon an overall reddish color, perhaps mixed with orange or brown,” Seeberg said.
Totality begins just past midnight, at 12:07 a.m. Tuesday; total eclipse ends at 1:25 a.m.; and the partial eclipse ends at 2:33 a.m.
“Although the event will be easy to see and appreciate with just your unaided vision, binoculars and telescopes will make it particularly interesting,” Seeberg said. “Through a telescope, you can see craters and other lunar features gradually darken.”
According to a NASA eclipse bulletin, this will be the first total lunar eclipse since Dec. 10, 2011.
The Monday event will be the first of four consecutive lunar eclipses that are all total, called an eclipse tetrad. For two years, a lunar eclipse will occur over the Western Hemisphere every six months. The other three will be on Oct. 8; April 4, 2015; and Sept. 28, 2015.
The last time that happened — a series of four lunar eclipses with no partials — was 2003-2004. It won’t happen again until 2032-2033, according to NASA.”
Further N4TM Commentary:
Who’s prophesy is it that there will be four blood moons and this is the sign of the last days? Did Jesus ever say this would be a sign? I get that these are happening on Jewish calendar holidays, but does that mean Jesus is coming by the last of the four blood moons? Mr. Hagee seems to be confusing himself by reading all those extracurricular books that aren’t scripture.
“The Gemara comments on the significance of solar and lunar eclipses: “The rabbis taught in a beraisa: ‘At the time the sun is stricken [i.e. when its light is diminished], it is a bad omen for the world…. To what can this be compared? It is comparable to a king who made a banquet for his subjects, and placed a lantern before them. He [subsequently] became angry with them and said to his servant, ‘Remove the lantern from before them and let them sit in darkness.’ ”
The Gemara further comments: “The rabbis taught in a beraisa: During the time the sun is stricken, it is a bad omen for idolaters. [During the time that] the moon is stricken, it is a bad omen for the Jewish people” (Sukkah 29a).” Source: JewishPress
Not enough? Here’s more:
Sages in both Babylonia (modern-day Iraq) and the Land of Israel continued to study traditional teachings, including the Mishnah, describing the teachings as having been passed down from Moses at Sinai (either literally or figuratively). The oral discussions were preserved, either by memorization or notation, and later edited together in a manner that places generations of sages in conversation with one another. These teachers were interested in bringing greater harmonization between biblical and rabbinic traditions, largely by providing proof-texts for known laws and explaining differences between the biblical and rabbinic versions of laws. This is the origin of the Gemara.
Babylonian vs. Palestinian
There are actually two works known as “Gemara”–the Babylonian Gemara (referred to as “Bavli” in Hebrew) and the Palestinian (or Jerusalem) Gemara (referred to as “Yerushalmi“). The term “Gemara” itself comes from the Aramaic root g.m.r (equivalent to l.m.d, in Hebrew), giving it the meaning “teaching.” Source: MyJewishLearning
